COVID-19 SIA Update

There are still options available, but lets take the right steps?

We know that our learners are relying on us to provide up to date information on current standings during these unprecedented times and we want you to know that we are taking that responsibility very seriously.

We have been closely monitoring the situation regarding COVID-19 so that we can make the right decisions for both our employees and customers. Following notification from the UK Government on Monday 23rd March 2020, it has now been necessary to implement some further changes.

I would like to share with you some of the simple, but important, steps we are taking to ensure the safety of our employees and community whilst also ensuring as little disruption as possible for you all:

We are still here to help!

It has been necessary to instigate home working for staff members as a protective measure for both employees and the community.
With that being said, our telephone line – 01604 600907 – and email accounts are still in use by our team, so you can make contact with us for any support requirements during our usual hours of business (9am-5pm Monday-Friday)

1. Staying Safe

Following the guidelines set out by the government, the decision has now been made that it is no longer safe for our team to access the office during the current travel restrictions. Therefore, as of Wednesday 25th March we will not be working from the office to process hard copy tests or certificates.

2. PDF certificates

Steps are now being put in place to enable our team to provide PDF certificates (instead of hard copies) during the interim period that the office is not accessible. Therefore, from next week learners will be receiving PDF certificates – hard copy certificates will be provided as soon as we are able to access the office again. In the meantime, should you have any concerns regarding this – please do not hesitate to contact us.

3. SIA Tests

With regards to tests and resits, we are currently looking into potential avenues that can be provided to allow learners to complete assessments whilst also adhering to social distancing/quarantine stipulations.

4. For Security Centres

The SIA have made the decision to close their offices and their team are now working remotely – this means that there may be a potential delay in candidate licensing. More information on this matter can be found here – https://www.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk/Pages/home.aspx

5. Physical Intervention

The SIA have also provided confirmation that, under the current circumstances, if PI providers are experiencing problems carrying out PI annual refreshers, a PI extension can be granted for a maximum of 28 days (This does not mean a 28 day extension. It means an extension of an appropriate number of days until the next refresher training programme is running)

6. SIA Security Guard Courses Available

The SIA have confirmed that at this time the Door Supervision qualification cannot be delivered, this is due to the physical intervention requirements that currently go against social distancing stipulations. Therefore, we will not be providing the Door Supervision course during the lockdown, we have postponed all DS course’s until further information is provided by the SIA, however Security Officer courses will still be running as normal, please refer to our course dates calendar for. More information.

We will be following government guidelines to ensure we keep up to date with the latest information to ensure that staff and learners are protected. Please note that we are constantly monitoring this situation and will provide updates and make changes as and when necessary.

Should you have any queries at all regarding the above information, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. Our team are here to provide you support and advice during this difficult time, so please utilise us!

Stay Safe & Kind Regards
