A door supervisor licence is essential if you want to work in a security role at a licensed venue, this includes supermarkets and events that sell alcohol.
What are licensable activities?
Manned guarding in or at licensed premises, would be deemed a licensable activity specifically in relation to Door Supervisors unless the role purely involves the use of CCTV equipment. Security Operatives working as a cash and valuables in transit, security guard or close protection officer have different licensable roles. A Door Supervisor licence is mandatory if you are performing this activity as a contractor or if you are working for a security company or sub contracting.
What is a licensed premises?
Any venue or premises that sells alcohol by retail. Membership clubs who supply alcohol to members. Venues involved in the provision of regulated entertainment or late night refreshment.<br>
<br>What are the entry requirements?<br>

Anyone can apply for a door supervisor licence provided you meet the following criteria:<br>
◦ be at least 18 years old<br>
◦ pass an identity check<br>
◦ pass a criminal record check<br>
◦ have a recognised door supervisor qualification
A Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence is required when manned guarding activities are carried out useing closed circuit television equipment for activities like monitoring members of the public in a public or private place, or to identify a particular person. This includes the use of CCTV in these cases to record images that are viewed on non-CCTV equipment.
The CCTV licence is £220 and it lasts for three year. You may be able to claim tax relief against it if you are a self employed CCTV Operator. Security companies often pay the licence fee on behalf of employee’s as there is no tax or National Insurance liability.
You are entitled to a 50% discount if you already have an SIA licence and you are applying for an additional license.
The SIA can attach to the licence any conditions they believe to be reasonable.
You must renew your licence before it expires to continue working.<br>
You can apply to renew your licence up to 4 months before your current licence expires.
The SIA may authorise a person to enter your place of business or place of work to assess your compliance with any ongoing obligations. You may also have to provide any relevant documents or information to show your compliance with any licence obligations.
